Just in time, this oldie but goodie alternative wedding by Allebach Photography is sure to get you in the Halloween mood! For a Halloween themed wedding or for any offbeat bride or groom searching for a unique venue, Eastern State Penitentiary, located in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia can’t be beat. Opened in 1829, ESP was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, known for its’ grand architecture and system of separate incarceration, stressing rehabilitation rather than punishment. Some notorious criminals were housed here including Al Capone and bank robber “Slick Willie” Sutton. Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1965, closed in 1971 and eventually falling to ruin. In 1991 The Pew Charitable Trusts provided fundraising to start stabilizing and preserving the structure. It was open to the public for tours in 1994, and today ESP is open for touring during the day. At night, in the fall, “Terror Behind The Walls” is an annual Haunted House Halloween event that is held and widely popular in the Delaware Valley. ESP can also be rented Spring through Fall for weddings, events and parties. They have an in-house event planning team and state-of-the- art LED lights and sound to highlight the stunning architecture. Scroll down to check out this eerily unique wedding.
