We weren’t sure about the naked cake trend, but in this case less really is more. As everyone knows by now, naked cakes are simply layered cakes, often sponge, with buttercream, cream cheese, whipped cream or fruit filling in between. The cake is often dusted with icing sugar or dripped with caramel, chocolate or fruit preserves. The luscious creme filled layers more then make up for the absence of icing on the outside, allowing you to see the inside cake layers and all the goodness in between. Naked cakes are often choosen for a rustic wedding for their natural and organic look and are decorated with fruit or fresh flowers. As Alana Jones-Mann, a Brooklyn-based baker says, ” Let the season influence the flavor.” We say let the season influence the decorative fruit and flowers as well.
