The Wedding Day:
“I pinned. I planned. I prepped. I imagined our florals, tasted the cake, fitted my dress, chose our songs – but my wildest dreams could not prepare me for the happiness, love, and beauty that surrounded me and my husband on our wedding day. I think so much effort goes into how the wedding will look and play out that I never even thought about what I would feel like – just assumed it would be happy. And boy was it ever!
The morning of the wedding, I got ready with my bridesmaids, mom, and grandmother at the Hilton Torrey Pines. The girls did their own hair and make up, so it was easy to just relax and enjoy the moment together. We even had a silly yoga session to release pent up energy and excitement. Valerie and Hailey from Brides Amore (who did my hair/makeup + my mom/grandma/MOH) were so sweet and fun to get ready with – they made the day that much better!
Our ceremony was relatively short but very sweet. Our pastor did a really good job explaining the Biblical symbolism between our vows, rings, and sand ceremony.
My favorite memory of the entire day came right after we were pronounced Husband & Wife and walked down the aisle as a married couple. As soon as we got away from the crowd, we couldn’t help but stop to hug, kiss, cry and laugh. In that moment we had finally made it – we were married! It sounds cliché but it literally was the BEST feeling ever and is a moment I will go back to for the rest of my life.
We chose not to do a first look, so after the ceremony we took a few family pictures and bridal party pictures and headed off to take romantic shots alone. This part was so fun – plus it was nice to have a little alone time and let all the emotions of the day sink in. We were so crazy happy – when I look at our pictures I can see that joy and am glad we chose to skip the first look.
After the pictures, we had nothing to do but celebrate! We ate delicious food, cut the cake, listened to heartfelt toasts, and danced the night away.”
“I have so many fond memories of the beach – from going there as a child with my mom to Scott asking me to marry him in the sand at sunset. An ocean view was a priority for us when looking for a wedding venue, and living in Southern California one would assume it would be easy to find! However, we had a few other requirements that were not as easy to find including complete privacy, an outdoor reception, and ability to customize the space. We started our search in Santa Barbara and worked our way down the coast until we found the Martin Johnson House. We instantly fell in love with its beautiful ocean view and unique charm.”
“We chose navy, gold, ivory, and blush for our wedding colors. We felt each of these colors elegantly complimented the natural beauty of our venue. Our florals had lots of texture, and incorporated the navy and gold them perfectly using anemones, ranunculus, and even lemons on the tables. The greenery was full of olive and magnolia, giving off an elegant Tuscan vibe when mixed with brass candle sticks and soft linens.”
“After we got engaged, Scott began studying for the Professional Engineer’s exam. He would spend 8 hours each weekend studying bridge construction and I would spend the time studying weddings & dresses. After lots of research, I found my would-be dress online and located a store that carried it. My expectations of liking the first dress I tried on were low – but the second I put it on I knew it was the ONE. I truly felt like a princess in it and cannot imagine wearing any other dress that day.”
