“I can’t believe how lucky we are – we had such a wonderful time on our wedding day that I can’t find the words for it! Our wedding day was completely made by the friends and family who made it happen. We got married at the church in the village where I grew up (the church where I’d go for Christmas carols etc. as a child) and the reception was in a marquee in a field at my Mum’s house, where her husband Paul works as a blacksmith. Mum spent hours everyday in the lead up to the wedding mowing the site so that it was like a lawn and a pathway to the marquee through the long grass (not to mention making the place names, the order of services and numerous other details) and Paul hand made the frames for floral decorations and the horse shoe keyrings for wedding favours in his forge. We couldn’t have done any of it without the very kind contributions of my Dad and Julie (Julie also paid for our honeymoon, the most amazing gift!) and Greg’s Mum, Pat.
Highlights of the day included the surprise horse and carriage arranged for us by my Mum and Grandma, the cross stitch made by my Grandma and wonderful friends who came along, some of whom travelled from very far afield to be there on the day and also our brilliant magician, Spencer Wood, who people are still talking about.
Anyone who knows me well would laugh if they heard “wedding dress” as my endeavours to find the right dress were something of a comedy – all I’ll say is “third time lucky”! On a serious note though, the David Tutera for Mon Cheri “Gia” dress was absolutely stunning and could have been designed for the day; it glimmered in the church and in the sunshine and felt like something I’d wear while still being traditional. I saw the dress in a magazine and thought it was stunning but wasn’t in a position to get a dress at the time; when I did end up wearing it for the first time I was so happy that it suited me too. A brilliant seamstress nearby, Tina Waller, altered my dress and modified the neckline slightly so it was more of a sweetheart as I wanted to be a bit more daring!
Thank you Mon Cheri and everyone else who was part of our amazing day!”
