Trying to pick our favorite beaches in the U.S. Virgin Islands is like trying to pick a favorite pair of shoes – there are just too many amazing ones to choose from! With pure white sand, azure water, rolling mountains as a backdrop and (mostly) free public access, you honestly can’t go wrong with any of them. But, if we had to pick, here are our top 5 beaches in the USVI.
Mermaid Beach (St. Croix)
Mermaid Beach is a palm shaped protected island with dozens of tall coconut trees, lounge chairs and a variety of beach lover sports! The white sandy shorelines offer bars, restaurants, and restrooms to make your visit both accommodating and relaxing.
During your visit, be sure to keep an eye out for the beautiful local wildlife! Mongoose, iguanas and island cats are just some of the many animals you might come across on your adventure!
Carambola (St. Croix)
Situated at the foothills of a rain forest, Carambola is nothing short of a natural paradise! Perfect for a romantic getaway, the beach is located close to a small town called Christiansted. Its laid back atmosphere is made up of small hotels and many diverse restaurants.
Christiansted is also home to several scuba shops owned and operated by locals who are able to guide you to secluded diving attractions located on the north side of the island, unbeknownst to many tourists.
Honeymoon Bay Beach (St. John)
Considered a true gem of the St. John Island, Honeymoon Bay is an exclusive beach only accessible by boat and hiking trails. The sandy white beaches and calm shallow water make it perfect for every type of beach goer.
Water sports such as snorkeling, paddle boarding and kayaking are made easily available to visitors with pop-up rental stands. However, if water sports aren’t your idea of relaxation, chair rentals are available to sit back and soak up the sun in!
Magen’s Bay Beach (St. Thomas)
Located on the North Atlantic side of the St. Thomas Island, Magen’s Bay is a widely popular tourist beach and also a favorite gathering spot for locals. Although the sandy ocean bottom isn’t ideal for a snorkeling adventure, you can expect to to see turtles, conch shells and tarpon!
And, just when you thought Magen’s incredibly calm setting couldn’t get any better, there is a coconut grove, a mangrove and a beautiful arboretum included on the beach property!
Trunk Bay (St. John)
Regularly voted one of the “Top Beaches in the World” by Conde Nast’s Traveler magazine, Trunk Bay on St. John Island is hands down one of the most popular beaches on the island! Protected by the U.S. National Parks Service, it’s famous for its underwater snorkeling trail leading to a gorgeous natural coral reef. Keep in mind that Trunk Bay is the only National Park beach on the island that requires a fee to access.
