24 Stunning Trash the Dress Photos
We’re not really sure how we feel about the Trash the Dress trend. For many women, their wedding dress is the most beautiful dress they’ll ever wear, not to mention the most expensive. So it’s hard to imagine soiling it or destroying it for the sake of more wedding photos. It’s even odd to call it a trend since Trash the Dress started around 2000, is still going strong and has morphed into Rock the Frock, Sport the Dress and Fearless Bridal. Sure, some brides are still going the traditional route and preserving their dress for another generation to wear; donating their dress to a charity, or even selling their dress to recoup some of the money they put out for one day of wear.
Trash the dress is for those brides with a creative side who see this photo shoot as not only artistic expression and one last chance to wear their dress, but also as an opportunity to make more beautiful photos and have fun doing it. The photo shoot can be done on the day of the wedding (see surfing couple), but is usually done a day to weeks later and sometimes years for anniversary shoots. The idea is to capture the bride and groom in a way that normally would not be captured the day of the wedding. These images are shot in non-conventional places or the couple is doing something they would not normally be doing in wedding attire. It can be as simple as laying in the grass or snow, to performing an activity or sport such as skiing. The beach, river, lake, or field are common backdrops. The trashing of the dress is done via water (most popular), mud, fire, paint, wine…. you get the picture. We’ve decided to focus on beautiful images, mostly set in the water, that don’t involve paint, which frankly feels a bit sacrilegious!
